John Ross House

The historic John Ross House is located right on Head House Square in Philadelphia, just a short walk from Center City. Head House Square, built in 1775, is the oldest surviving marketplace in the United States and is deeply embedded in American History. 

This site once belonged to John Ross, who married famous American Patriot Betsy Ross in 1773. John Ross joined the Pennsylvania militia in 1776, and was gravely wounded at a Delaware River ammunition cache while standing guard. Although John was unable to see his wife's creation of the American Flag, his memory lives on within this building.
